Whilst packing for the upcoming move this weekend, I found some old sketch books, and these fell out of one of them. They were boredom drawings done during downtime in one of my military schools. This particular one accompanied a short story that I can no longer find. Essentially, Death befriended a little boy murdered in the woods. Death's cold heart was touched, and after escorting the boy to the afterlife, decided to go find the boy's killer. It was a snippet I wrote while working on "A Family."

Love the stylish tree's roots and the fall leaves, plus the kid's innocent face...The concept is wicked and yet so very sweet at the same time. Mad Speculation Time! Death here eventually became Obe, who agreed to keep Ida around just a little longer because he remembered that little human boy who first touched his cold heart. A shame the short story attached to this drawing isn't around, but I support its eventual resurrection with thumbs up.
